Layli Long Soldier podcast addresses the formal “apology” to the Native American people who had been living in the Americas for hundreds of years. She as an Native American who is directly affected didn’t even know about it because it was done in such a way, very little attention was brought to it. It was like they wanted to address and apologize but did it in a way that made it seem like Americans had did nothing wrong. The apology given to the Native Americans just seemed insincere and inconsiderate for all they went through and are still going through. In Long soldiers quote she is referring to the underrating of what was essentially an invasion. The native people had been living there lives peacefully for so long, and for this foreign takeover come in and act like it was normal is what she means. The idea that the Europeans were providing Natives some luxury fantasy was all a big gag, because in the end all they did was take their land and push them further and further west, even to this day Americans are still trying to move into Native American territory. The phrasing was important to note because it wasn’t a new chapter, rather it was closing the chapter on a happy lifestyle for the Natives, and this new chapter included blood-shed and loss of precious land. This podcast really hits hard because it brings a voice to this document that was written in the dark, but meant to address the masses. It brings out the idea that when you are writing no matter who or what it is for you should always be sincere and elaborate. Specificity in writing is a key otherwise you are pretty much wasting your time if you can’t bring meaning to your wording. The interview begins by addressing the issue, discussing it, and then Layli goes into her book and some ongoing conflicts, the overall tone has a slight humor in the beginning but quickly gets serious as they discuss the injustices to Native American people. From this interview I can take into consideration the flow of the interview, it had a very nice flow from one part to the next while still being able to address all the heavy hitting topics.
