Samantha Solomon Peer Review

The new setting, the tastes of freedom, the roommates, the friends to be made, the education to formulate, all opportunities freshman like Samantha Solomon get to experience when they go off to College. Samantha a Freshman from South Florida grew up living a “double childhood”, growing up in North Miami Beach she came from a small town before her and her family moved to Fort Lauderdale her freshman year of high school. A new beginning and chance for her to start over, gain new friends, and start the next chapter before going off to college. Her years in high school led her to want an out of state experience for college, applying to the University of Texas among 4 other out of state schools and 3 in state. For samantha everything came down to “convenience and aid” leading her to stay in state, narrowing her choices, she soon found Florida State University to be her new home. A smooth transition to college, Samantha constantly stays in touch with her family to avoid the homesickness many freshman face. Her family being her main support they fill her in on the updates of life back at home and provide a listening ear. Like myself her most missed amenity is nonetheless, her own shower. As freshman the idea of a “long hot shower without having to wear flip flops or worry about anyone knocking on the door” is a luxury. Academically Samantha came in wanting to be a Pediatric Psychiatrist, until she realized that math and science weren't her calling. Samantha soon switched her major to Psychology with a minor in Family and Child Developmental Sciences, so she can put her work to use in mental health in children her goal being to double major and eventually go out of state for Graduate school so she can continue to pursue her dreams of being a Psychologist. Diving in to her college experience it all kicked off over the summer when Samantha participated in “Rush” where she became apart of Sigma Delta Tau sorority. Though the good times quickly came to a halt when the University put a halt on all Greek activity due to the negligence of a few Fraternity members. Samantha says she doesn't notice the strain as much as some of the older pledging classes are probably feeling it, but it does affect the entire Greek community in the lack of a structure. Even through this setback Samantha still finds the time to enjoy Florida State and everything else it has to offer. Her favorite memory being family weekend where her family was able to come up and meet her new friends, see how everything was going, go to the game with her, and just give her a chance to think about something else than being hundreds of miles away. Whether it be looking for her clubs to join for her major to get more involved or going to a football game with friends she genuinely feels like FSU is growing on her.
